Les plus curieux ont leur id\u00e9e sur la question : ils d\u00e9finissent le terroir comme une trilogie : le sol, la climatologie et l\u2019homme. Les autres s\u2019en moquent, pourvu que le terroir soit bon, c\u2019est tout ce qu\u2019on lui demande le soir apr\u00e8s une journ\u00e9e de dur labeur. Bref, qu\u2019on y arrive ou qu\u2019on n\u2019y arrive pas, qu\u2019importe. Le terroir c\u2019est ce truc ind\u00e9finissable qui fait que le vin est bon. Bien \u00e0 l\u2019endroit o\u00f9 il prend vie, avec juste ce qu\u2019il faut de soleil et de pluie, de taille et de soins, bien \u00e9lev\u00e9, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la main du vigneron\u2026 Ici, le vin r\u00e9pond \u00e0 l\u2019ensemble de ce petit cahier des charges. Le sol : le plateau caillouteux de la Crau, lieu-dit bien connu de l\u2019appellation Ch\u00e2teauneuf du pape, laisse les vieilles vignes (60 ans en moyenne) s\u2019\u00e9panouir dans un sol o\u00f9 les \u00ab molasses du Mioc\u00e8ne \u00bb font de la place \u00e0 l\u2019argile. La m\u00e9t\u00e9o ? Une pluviom\u00e9trie hivernale moyenne (200 mm) suffit \u00e0 recharger ce type de profil qui ne subit que peu de d\u00e9perdition. Le soleil fait le reste. Quant \u00e0 l\u2019homme, les hommes, Daniel et Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Brunier, ils mettent en musique, comme on dit, \u00e0 l\u2019aide de plusieurs c\u00e9pages (grenache noir 65%, mourv\u00e8dre 15%, syrah 15%, cinsault, Clairette et autres 5%). Ch\u00e2teauneuf est en effet une appellation autoris\u00e9e \u00e0 utiliser 13 c\u00e9pages, un record national. Bref, vous l\u2019avez compris, ce vieux t\u00e9l\u00e9graphe est un vin de terroir. Puissant et aromatique, il peut patienter un quart de si\u00e8cle au moins avant de laisser ses tanins s\u2019arrondir.
