(90-92) From older vines around the estate in the northeastern section and fermented with 20% stems, the 2024 Gigondas Racines is based on 80% Grenache Noir, 15% Syrah/Cinsault, and 5% Clairette, aged 20 months in 60-hectoliter French oak foudres. Blacker fruits, tapenade, pepper, and garrigue all emerge from the glass, and it’s always a touch more dense, compact, and powerful compared to the Terrasses du Diable cuvée. This medium-bodied, balanced, rock-solid Gigondas will show well for 15 years or more if well stored.
(91-93) On the nose, the 2024 Gigondas Racines shows a little less overall complexity and intensity than the Terrasse du Diable tasted alongside, offering subtle black fruits and dried herb aromas. Licorice adds another layer. Coming alive on the full-bodied palate, the 2024 carries ample flavor concentration wrapped in slightly chalky tannins that provide solid grip. No doubt i twill require more time to mellow than the Terrasse du Diable, but all the right ingredients are present.
